ARESTIN® is an antibiotic used to treat gum disease. It is commonly used in combination with other treatments, such as scaling and root planing, pocket reduction and periodontal maintenance to enable your body to continue to fight harmful oral bacteria following a visit with our dentists and team. ARESTIN consists of the antibiotic minocycline hydrochloride. It is administered as a powder that is applied to gum pockets after your treatment. The antibiotic is released over the next 30 days and is known to produce better results than those of a deep cleaning or other treatment alone.

Following your visit, there are steps that you can take to help ensure that your ARESTIN treatment is effective:

• Stay hydrated
• Avoid any contact with the area for one week
• Wait 10 days before flossing the area
• Drink plenty of water
• Avoid or limit the use of tobacco products
• Star away from hard, sticky or crunchy foods for a week for after your appointment
• See our dentists for all of your follow-up visits

The best thing that you can do is to maintain a good home oral health routine. You should brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss prior to going to bed. These are easy ways to keep your teeth and gums clean and prevent the build-up of plaque and bacteria.
